Private Client | Highgate Village, London UK 2008

Playfulness of light and shadow were at the core this home remodeling project in North London’s Highgate Village. An extension was added to the back of a Victorian terrace house, itself completely refurbished, with the box roof of the addition a truly evocative, dynamic new focal point. Incorporating a laser-cut steel screen into glass, the screen’s pattern – at a distance –alludes to softly waving fabric and in effect modulates light and offers privacy. By day, its graphic pattern is projected throughout the space by the sun; by night it reflects striations of warm golden light back into the dining room.

The project as a whole touched all elements of the home: its façade, garden, and the ground floor kitchen and dining areas, which were generously enlarged. Bespoke joinery runs throughout the house, with new fireplaces, bathrooms, storage areas and libraries neatly integrated with refurbished Victorian plaster moldings and timber detailing.
