Clay Country Housing
Clay Country Housing
This design for the Eco-Bos development at West Carclaze / Baal is inspired by the materials and character of Mid-Cornwall. It offers a simple, robust house model suited to rural Cornwall. The building is composed of four interlocking architectural elements: a clay render and vertical timber framework that supports a limited, efficient window pattern, ensuring quality daylight. A slate roof completes the composition, echoing the mixed materiality of local barns and cottages.
Inside, the layout balances flexibility and simplicity, meeting key Lifetime Homes standards without overt adaptations. Sheltered entrances are integrated into the form, and a straight stairway ensures efficient circulation. The structure includes adaptable zones for future mobility aids such as hoists and lifts.
