The existing family of pylon designs, developed from the 1930’s original, represent a cumulative design process based on economic efficiency, material simplicity, structural redundancy and visual self-similarity. The result of this approach is a flexible, and in many respects beautiful, design that is both fit for purpose and intellectually satisfying.

A rough sketch of wind turbines with notes on bearing and stake arm, with the composition focused on the turbines in a minimalistic style, architecture by MOXON Architects.

By employing the same principles of standardised steel angles and bolted connections as used in current practice this proposal looks to exploit recent advances in fabrication to suggest an approach that is visually lighter and more three dimensionally satisfying than current models.
