Günzburg
A family of timber and stone bridges.
Günzburg
The Donausteg, Günzsteg, and Kappenzipfelsteg form a cohesive family of pedestrian and cycle bridges in Günzburg, unified by a shared design philosophy rooted in sustainability, material honesty, and contextual sensitivity. All three bridges use a refined palette of timber and natural stone - materials chosen for their inherently low environmental impact - while responding uniquely to their respective sites.
The Donausteg, the largest and most prominent, spans the Danube with a transparent arched form, acting as both a functional link and a visual landmark between the city and its northern recreational areas.
The Günzsteg offers a more intimate experience, bridging the Günz River while weaving through forested landscape. Its widened midspan encourages users to pause and enjoy views toward the Danube and its sister bridges.
The Kappenzipfelsteg is more urban in character, resolving complex elevational changes with a low-profile structure that functions as a continuation of the nearby hillside path.
