Karlín and Holešovice Footbridge
2017
The bridge sits above the high-water mark to ensure usability during floods, using a refined flange girder profile with stainless steel top and bottom plates that reflect sunlight and contrast with darker webs. Inclined girders provide safety, reduce material use, and contribute to the design’s visual lightness. Integrated ramps and stairways flow naturally into the terrain, enhancing access and integration with the context.
A raised section on Štvanice Island forms a scenic lookout and civic landmark. Durable surfacing with resin-bonded gravel accommodates both pedestrians and cyclists, while integrated lighting and minimalist railings enhance its night time presence. Designed for sustainability, adaptability, and long-term urban integration, the bridge acts as a sculptural, functional destination to enrich the riverfront experience.
