The Steve Prescott Bridge
‘"...an example of excellent cooperation between the client, contractor, design team and specialist suppliers in order to deliver a high quality, attractive and extremely cost effective solution.’

The form of the span describes a shallow arch combined with a looping and enveloping parabolic primary structure that cradles the deck: a form that is intended to provide an identifiable intervention for St Helens Rugby that marks one of the primary access points to the new stadium.
The bridge deck is supported by means of 16 steel hangers set along either side at 2m centres. This structure allows the deck to be shallow, at about 0.5m, which in turn minimises the height of the approach embankments, whilst allowing 6m headroom for vehicles using the St Helens Linkway East road network below.
‘The project was compressed into a very tight programme and illustrates what can be achieved in terms of best practice in the construction industry on a small scale project.’
