Channel View Bridge
Channel View Bridge
As part of the Channel View redevelopment in Grangetown, Cardiff, we are designing a new foot/cycle bridge over the River Taff. The 170m long crossing will form a vital link between two urban parks, improving access to the local school, leisure opportunities and the city’s expanding active travel network.
The distinctive silhouette and plan alignment combine to form an efficient and dynamic bridge form that will symbolize community connectivity. Extensive stakeholder consultation lead towards a 5.5m wide segregated bridge deck that flares at its apex to incorporate seating and a viewing platform.
The asymmetric span configuration responds to the river bend and off-center navigation channel in addition to different height riverbanks. Varying height steel girders support the approach spans from below before springing above the deck at the main span. The entire assembly is both balanced and striking presenting dynamic views when seen from all angles.
