Crossing Crescent’s organic form responds to the curvilinear glass domes to the south and sweeping Founders’ Memorial to the north. The deck is wide enough for all types of users yet still has an intimate, human scale. At both landings the path seamlessly joins the existing network, maintaining a safe and clear hierarchy while catering to every desire line.

As the structural abutments emerge from the topography, the native tropical planting transitions to higher canopy trees that afford glimpses of the structure and clear lines of sight. Over time the landings will soften further as nature is encouraged to reclaim the shoreline.

Like fine jewelry, this form is the result of careful consideration and refinement. It began as a taught line, stretching between the Flower Dome, Cloud Forest and Founders’ Memorial. The midpoint was then pulled towards the sea resulting in a dynamic parabolic shape. The elongated route ensures a gentle gradient and ample clearance for watercraft below. In plan the parabola carefully avoids constraints while bringing the landings closer to the key onward destinations.

Marina Bay is a special amenity enjoyed by citizens and visitors alike. Without a major shipping channel, the new crossing need not prioritise a central span, It wants to efficiently skip across the bay. Crossing Crescent achieves a perfect balance between span length and number of supports. The structural depth relates to the human scale and then spans as far as possible. The truss form provides opportunities for shade, nighttime lighting and a rooftop PV array.
