Galway Pier
Above the horizontal pier, totemic architectural elements act as visual markers, visible from the sea and anchoring the building within the harbour context.
The design retains the harbour's industrial character while adding layered public decks and an elevated performance space. This adaptable area connects with the city and is meant to evolve over time. The gantry cranes enable movement of architectural and temporary elements, reinforcing its dynamic nature.
Durable materials suit the maritime setting: a painted steel and hardwood deck ensures low maintenance, while five towers clad in weathering timber and dichroic glass shift colour - from cadmium yellow to ultramarine - mirroring the sea’s changing light and acting as shimmering waymarkers.
