Connecting rural communities
HS2 Footbridges
The bridges, which carry rural footpaths and bridleways across the new high-speed line are safe and accessible to all, efficient to manufacture and assemble, and deeply sympathetic of the surrounding landscape.
To withstand the pressure waves created by trains passing underneath at speeds of up to 225mph, the crossings share the same robust structural form. Above deck, articulated warren trusses in weathering steel give the bridges a distinct identity. Transition panels at either end complete the lineside enclosure to create a series of secure, seamless, step-free crossings.

Internally, oak panelling lends a warm aesthetic and tactile surface, while perforated stainless steel offers transparency and views along the line. A recycled, non-slip rubber deck allows equestrians to cross comfortably.
The HS2 footbridges are the result of close partnership working between Moxon, EKFB, and designers ASC.
‘I hope that walkers, riders and the community will welcome the new bridges and benefit from the huge amount of high quality design work that the design team has undertaken to develop them.’
