Mersey Observatory
Mersey Observatory
Liverpool,
England
2007
The observatory forms a striking and elegant silhouette, a reaching gesture at the mouth of the Mersey River. The ascent to the platform is key in making the experience of the coastline dynamic; as the inclined lift takes visitors away from the land and out to a bird’s eye position over the water. The viewing platform is held like a jewel within a clasp, allowing 360 degree views out to the estuary, back to the city centre and docks, while the glass flooring at the tip of the platform allows views down to the river below.
