Northwich Vision Cultural Centre
The building provides a series of dramatic public spaces and multi-functional volumes. This is permeable architecture, with a fluid arrangement of spaces and a ground plane that is open to the public, forming a large city ‘room’ sheltered by the elevated volumes above it. The site is carved into a public terrace, leveled off in areas to provide seating areas and space for performances.
The spatial organisation draws visitors upwards from the street into an immersive cultural environment. Circulation routes enjoy the most dramatic spatial moments in the building, occupying fissures in the architecture that also provide opportunities for art and exhibitions of different scales and permanence.
