This project entailed the refurbishment and extension of a Grade 2 Listed townhouse in Chelsea. The space has been reconfigured throughout, to provide a fewer number of larger rooms, with additions to the top and bottom of the house increasing its volume by approximately a quarter.
A minimalist interior with white walls features a built-in wooden bookshelf. The shelves are filled with colorful books, and there is a large window on the right, allowing natural light to brighten the space.
View through a large glass door opening onto a small patio garden. The patio features potted plants and a brick retaining wall leading to a higher terrace area with more plants. White walls and floors give a modern, clean aesthetic.

At the Lower Ground level, where the space opens to the rear garden, traces of the original structure have been deliberately retained as the geometric guidelines for a new otherwise largely open space – establishing a hierarchy of living space, kitchen, study, library and stairwell.

The lime finished English Oak staircase is part of a unified joinery element that combines high level library, pull out writing desk, secret compartments and mobile library steps.

Brick building with modern ground-floor extension featuring large glass sliding doors and a glass entrance, architecture by MOXON Architects.

The compact extension occupies the footprint of a previously existing add-on, however the volume has been maximized to create a new double height garden window that brings light deep into the middle of the plan at both lower and upper ground levels.
