Nyaya Health Telemedicine Centre
Nyaya Health Telemedicine Centre
The shortlisted proposal for the Nyaya Health Telemedicine Centre in Acham, Nepal is conceived as a structure that is simple to erect and maintain, with a pronounced and unique architectural language. The building is a low-profile timber frame wrapped in a rubber membrane across roof and walls. This simple, holistic system uses the same detailing at all junctions - floor, wall, and roof - simplifying construction.
A planted roof helps integrate the building into the terraced landscape as a natural extension of the hillside.
The wall membrane is shielded from weather and physical damage by a locally sourced bamboo rainscreen. Durable and robust, the bamboo protects the envelope and glazing while giving the building a cohesive, tectonic character. The screen’s density varies around windows, creating a ribbon-like effect of shifting opacity from ground level.
The plan features a simple arrangement of rooms along a top-lit spine. Bamboo screens divide the entrance and community spaces, allowing flexible configurations. Simplicity guides both the layout and construction approach.
