The concept design for a new crossing over the River Adur explores the design potential of a twin bascule - a bridge type selected for its inherently wider opening potential, simple operating mechanism, and low running and maintenance costs. The design is developed with a view to accentuating the slenderness of the deck, befitting the horizontality of the site and prominence of the bridge in the context of the town of Shoreham-by-Sea.
